Front Yard Resistance

Front Yard Resistance is a hyperlocal mutual aid project, hosted by Columbus GA Indivisible and City Indivisible Phenix City. Our goal is to help neighbors transform front yards and small business spaces into small, visible hubs of community care. These micro-projects might be a banned book library, a non-perishable food pantry, a garden, or a community art installation. Each site becomes a safe, low-barrier place for neighbors to give or receive support, especially for those who may feel uncomfortable or unsafe accessing traditional services. The goal is to build a map of accessible, welcoming spaces across Columbus and Phenix City that show solidarity with marginalized communities and strengthen neighborhood connections.

We are launching this project with a set of $50–$200 microgrants and are actively looking for volunteers, donated materials, and yard hosts.

Volunteers can help build small structures, paint, stock pantries, or support civic education workshops.

Homeowners and business owners can offer a small outdoor space where a project can live.

Donors can contribute supplies like wood, screws, paint, non-perishable food, or art materials.

Whether you have time, tools, or a corner of your yard to share, you can help create a visible network of care that makes our community safer, kinder, and more connected.
