El Refugio

One of the biggest immigration detention centers in the U.S. is hidden away in an isolated southwest Georgia county. Known for rampant human rights violations, Stewart Detention Center (SDC) is the deadliest immigration detention center in the U.S.

Down the street from SDC, there is hope. There is hospitality, there is love. There is El Refugio.

What we do

  • Open our hospitality house every weekend to people visiting loved ones at SDC,
  • Providing free meals and overnight accommodation, as well as friendship
  • Visit people detained at SDC
  • Advocate for the closure of SDC and the end of immigration detention
  • Support people detained with commissary deposits, and bags of clothing for people facing deportation, among other support.
